just another friday

... As I make my way to the car, my mother has to give her two cents about the whole trip. Such a downer gosh . . . She telling me how I shouldn’t go, the car isn’t ready for a trip like that and there’s a hurricane coming. But me being the young and defiant boy that I am, her words go in one ear and out the other. So I’m on my way. Gainesville here I come. My route of choice, the Turnpike. Tolls are free today since there’s a hurricane warning, and it leads me close to Gainesville. Now lets fast forward my drive to where the road trip goes south. I’m on the Turnpike in West Palm Beach, where the Strom was going to invade the peaceful people of Florida, when all of a sudden I see a racoon. So to avoid hitting what seemed like a deer caught in my headlights, I had to switch lanes as if in an NASCAR race and trying to avoid hitting another car. But in doing so, I run over someone’s car leftovers, that had been left from a previous incident. When that happen something had to go wrong, and it did. My back tire went flat. So over to the emergency lane I go to replace a useless tire. As I check out the damage, I felt like the racoon had planned this from the start. I could see him laughing at me, saying no Gainesville for you buddy. But I’m thinking it’s cool, I’ll just get the spare out and change it. After that it’ll be like nothing ever happens. I pop the trunk and begin to look for the lifesaver. To my amazement I find nothing but my books, bags and a jack. I get on the horn and call up the parental. She picks up the phone and say’s “What? You made it to Gainesville already?” My answer “No, I wish I did.” As I tell her my tall tale, all she can say is “ I told you so!” Somehow I knew that was coming from the beginning. She advised me to call a toll truck, but I refuse to pay all that money, plus nothing was open on this day. So we argue for a minute or so, till she gives ...
