...omnia. In my opinion, it’s ridiculous that a good, natural resource is illegal, especially a natural resource that can help so many people. There are lots of people who agree. Many old, harmless people suffering from illnesses have been fined or even jailed for months for protesting against the laws. One example is an eighty-year-old woman from Stoke-on-Trent who suffers from severe back pains. She smoked cannabis once a day for a couple of years to ease the pain. In July last year she was fined £5,000 and jailed for 6 months after pleading innocent in a court case. Doesn’t this punishment for a harmless elderly woman seem a little far-fetched to you? As I’m sure you know, alcohol and tobacco products are legal and are selling like hotcakes nationwide, and have been for years. Scientists have proven that cannabis is less harmful than tobacco. Dope smokers breathe in far less harmful smoke than tobacco smokers. It is estimated that there are over 5,000 chemicals in a cigarette, while in a ‘joint’ there doesn’t have to be a single one. Cannabis is not an addictive substance either, so people would smoke it less than cigarettes. Compared to alcohol, cannabis gives people a more relaxed feeling and unlike alcohol there isn’t a price to pay the next morning! In some cases, cannabis helps people from taking harder drugs. One example is Robbie Williams, who was snorting cocaine regularly. While he was struggling to quit, he found cannabis and it gradually helped him stop snorting cocaine. It is almost a certainty than the British government would benefit from the legalization of cannabis. The Netherlands are currently reaping the awards. Over 50% of the Dutch population smoke cannabis occasionally and this could only mean a hefty profit for the Dutch government. Such ...
