The advertisers for the movie “Vanity Fair” used several attempts to get the consumer’s interest in the movie, by invoking feelings of sexuality, mystery, and extravagance. The consumer is automatically drawn to this advertisement because the basic color of the ad is blood red. So immediately, the ad jumps out at the consumer and draws their initial interest. After the consumer is drawn to the ad, the next noticeable view point is a large picture of Reese Witherspoon. Reese Witherspoon is dressed extravagantly in red and gold, the colors of royalty. However, the first thing the consumer sees is her eyes. Her eyes are a bold green, which contrasts the rest of the ad. They are the only thing on the ad that isn’t red, white or gold. Her eyes are looking directly into the camera, as if she were challenging the consumer or anyone else. The next obvious thing about this advertisement is her lips. Her lips are bright red, and she has a slight mischievous smirk. When one studies this ad, it is notable that the entire ad is symmetric, except for her smile. One side of her smile is a little higher than her other side. After noticing her eyes and smile, the consumer’s eyes then follow her necklace down into her chest. There is a large gold “V” that goes across the ad, which the vertex of the “V” frames her chest. The widest part of the “V”, which is right under her chest, the text “Vanity fair” is seen. “Vanity fair” is written in two different types of font, and therefore stands out a little more. “Vanity” is in white, while “fair” is in red, and outlined in white. Underneath “Vanity fair” in small type it says “The Sumptuous New Film from MIRA NAIR.” The word “sumptuous” invokes a sudden feeling of luxury which is also accompanied by the red and gold theme of the ad. Also in the “V”, it has other actors and actresses’ names in white on the left had side. The white font on gold is harder to read, therefore less perceptible.
