He is a good pitcher but he is not great because he is not called “Iron-Man Bicek” or “Fire-ball Bruno”(16). He throws out his arm while playing baseball and then gets into boxing. He is undefeated at boxing, but both of his knockouts were rigged. Seeing that he has no future in boxing he joins the “Baldheads” (25) which is a gang. The gang leads him to crime which then inevitably to his arrest. The psychological mood of the story from his arrest all the way until the jail cell door closes is entrapment. Entrapment is what police use to get a confession the police start to surround him in a semicircle (15) in the beginning of the interrogation to get him nervous. They instill fear in him by breaking the blade of his knife with the billy (16). They use the silent treatment on him and Bruno hears the street cars, ticking of a clock (18) which represents his time running out, bells of St. John’s an allusion to him being Catholic, and the scratching of the reporters pen (20).
