Curley’s wife uses her sexuality and flirtatious ways to show what her role is on the ranch and in society during the 1930’s Depression Era. Curley’s wife flirts to get what she wants, attention, from the men on the ranch. She uses her sexual power to manipulate the men. She always presents herself as though she is royal and this also portrays that she thinks she how the power to do anything and everything with the men on the ranch. Females were not a high ranked class in the 1930’s. They were just considered to be a house wife, to do the cooking, cleaning and bearing children. Curley’s wife takes her power as a female to a new level. She wants to be recognized as a person and she will do everything just to be seen that way, even flirt with the other men on the ranch. In Of Mice and Men physical strength is a big advantage. During the Depression Era, a person’s rank in society was usually determined by their physical strength. However, physical strength is not everything. Mentally strong individuals also have an advantage over the mentally weak people. Most people weren’t educated, so being mentally strong was a good advantage over people who were mentally weak. Lennie uses his physical strength to show Curley that he is very dangerous and holds power, the power of physical strength.
