...e should always remember and never forget the price that was paid for the freedom we get. The poem ''War'' by Carol Blackburn reminds us as Americans of the sacrifices made in the past so we could have our freedom. ''War'' is a poem of great value because it allows readers to appreciate the sacrifices that both soldiers and civilians undertook during the Revolutionary War. Also readers can appreciate the freedoms Americans have because of those who endured the violent battles. Blackburn shows respect and honors those who defended our beloved country. The Revolutionary War cost many lives, but the reward from the fighting was far greater then the sacrifices made. Through her words Blackburn forces the reader to realize that they should not take their freedoms for granted. The reader is reminded of the less fortunate countries in which the citizens don't know what true freedom is. The poem, “War” begins with Blackburn talking about war in general. She states that war has always existed and will continue to exist until the end of time. She states that war exists because of greed and power and as long as these elements continue to exist then humans will encounter war. Blackburn talks about the negative aspects of war in the second stanza. She talks about the deaths and the wounds that occur because of the battles.
