What Made Me Who I am today

...ings I’ve learned through her actions. Through these actions there are many stories. When I was in the 4th grade my mom left me with a friend. She told me that she was going to do something and that she would be right back. While she was gone, my friend and her family decided to go to the movies. I had no money so I couldn’t go. I went home and the door was locked so I sat outside waiting for my mom to get home. While I was waiting, I got tired and fell asleep on top of a car in the port. When I woke up, she still wasn’t back. One of my neighbors noticed that I had been outside and asked me where my mom was. I had no answer, but as it got later I knew she wasn’t coming back soon. He asked me if he could take me somewhere I could stay. Luckily I remembered where my sister Marquitta was spending the night. My neighbor took me where she was staying. Of course our mom had other plans that my sister and I were not aware of. She used seventy-five dollars, for each of us to have a couple of outfits to wear to school then she left in the middle of the night while we were sleep. For a couple of days, we had not heard from her so my sister and I decided to wrap our own presents. Several nights later we got a call saying that she needs the rest of the money because she had a flat tire. So we gave one of her friends the money and my mom still didn’t come back for days. This is when I realized that my mom was using me and taking advantage of me. I decided that if I wanted to make something of myself, I would have to do it myself. No one was going to do it for me. Most people don’t learn that until they are in high school, but I was fortunate enough to receive those lessons from my mom as early as elementary school. WhenI look at all the situations that occurred in my life, I see them as positive because she has made me a better person from her actions. I’ve watched a person do all the wrong thing...
