He finished with the customer at hand then began to analyze the three girls as they were walking through the store. He critiqued them one by one, what they were wearing and what they looked like, “There was a chunky one, with the two piece-it was bright green…her belly was still pale…there was this one, with one of those chubby berry-faces, the lips all bunched together under her nose…and a tall one, with black hair…one of those sunburns across under the eye,” (page 98). He watched them go up and down the aisles as if he was stalking them from his post at the register. The girls came to the register and about th3 same time Lengel, the store manager, came over to the “Girls, this isn’t the beach,” (page 102). The girl told him they were just picking something up for her mother and Lengel repeats what he said and tells them next time they come in they need to be more decently dressed. As the girls were walking out Sammy in a desperate attempt to get their attention and to impress them Sammy says “I quit” (page 103). Lengel knew why Sammy was doing this and told him that he does not want to and that he is making a mistake. Sammy knew Lengel was right, “I know that’s true” (page 104),...
