When Canada did finally declare war against Germany, it was done with the condition that only volunteer soldiers would do our fighting. In 1914, when Britain declares war, Canada had no choice but to join her. In 1939 Canada was free to maker her own decision. During the 1920s,women were involving in sports organization as well as physical activities and in 1928, they were allowed to compete in track-in-field events in the Olympics. They took over lots of jobs. Women struggled for higher education and the number of women entering universities was small, but it began to rise after the First World War. Throughout history, the business of war has been the preserve of men, until the 20th century when the role of women in the armed forces began a process of transformation. Women now serve in an increasingly wide range of jobs, including jet fighter pilots in the Royal Navy, RAF and US Air Force. Women and men in our generation, and the ones that will follow us, are living the legacy of women's rights won against staggering odds in a revolution achieved without violence. One of the most significant moments in Canadian history are the battles that we had faced. About 110,000 Canadians died in the 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 Wars. March the 1st Canadian Division took part in the Battle of Neuve Chapelle. In April Canadians fought in the Second Battle of Ypres, where they were subjected to the Germans' first use of gas. When the 2nd Division arrived in France, the Canadian Corps was formed, later expanded by the addition of the 3rd Division.
