Is John Proctor a hero?
...he does think about her, he will never do anything with her ever again. He is being honest about his feelings toward her. Also, when Proctor is talking to his wife about his decision to confess, he says in agony, “I cannot mount the gibbet like a saint. It is a fraud” (883). Proctor is being honest with his wife about how he thinks of himself. These events show Proctor as a hero. Secondly, Proctors heroism is demonstrated through his loyalty. Proctor is talking with Danforth about whether or not Rebecca Nurse conspired with the Devil and Proctor cries out with hatred, “ I speak my own sins; I cannot judge another” (885). Proctor is being loyal to Rebecca Nurse by not telling Danforth about her “sins”. Also, when he is talking to Mary Warren about coming to court with him to save his wife for what he did, he strides up to Mary, catches her and says, ”My wife will never die for me”......that goodness will not die for me” (862)! HE is being loyal to his wife by not letting her get in trouble for something he did. These actions show he is a hero. Finally, Proctor demonstrates his heroism through his bravery. While talking to Danforth and the court, he admits to he lechery with Abby. Abby denies everything, but Proctor yells,...
