Crooks is isolated from everyone else because of the racism at the ranch. Loneliness as applied to Curley’s Wife is shown by how she is isolated. For example, even though she had many plans for her life such as being in movies and going to Hollywood, she ended up being forced to marry Curley against her will. Another example of isolation is shown when all the men avoid her to avoid getting in trouble with Curley. These results in her being more excluded. Loneliness is obvious in the following comments made by Curley’s Wife: “Think I don’t like to talk to somebody ever’ once in a while? Think I like to stick in that house alla time?’” (77). The above example shows that Curley’s Wife is suffering from loneliness just like anybody else would if they would be abandoned like she is. The author expresses loneliness through Candy by making him an outcast. For example, he’s has nobody close to him and is older than most of the other farm workers.
