...it. Her mother was insane and would tie Sybil to a broomstick, legs spradled then put things inside her, then pour hot water from a hot water bottle inside her. Then she would tie her to the piano leg and play and scream at Sybil not to lose her water. This and other atrositcies caused Sybil's personality to split into 16 different people. She was extremely sadistic, meaning she was fascinated by other people's pain. To add to this, she never really learned how to love her daughter, as she was raised in a family that never displayed love to her- hence, she had no qualms about exacting her sadistic habits on her own flesh and blood. On top of all of this, she was severely schizophrenic, and believed that it had to be done. This was often exhibited by her tendency to say things like "I have to do it" whenever she would do something particularly horrific. She also believed that she was "preparing" Sybil for having to deal with men and she would say so when she inserted various sharp objects into Sybil, permanently damaging Sybil's uterus. Basically, she's a perverted psycho. The mother, herself, had many emotional problems,control issues, and probably antisocial personality disorders, or even bipolar disorder. There was no reasoning behind her cruel behavior.the button hook, water bottle, kitchen light, amongst other things triggered Sybil to change into other personalities to protect her against her memories of her mother. Vicky, one of her first personalities, or Sybil's memory face during her blackouts began to recall her lost episode from childhood, possessing 16 different personalities. The child abuse and neglect, condemns the horrific way of nursing emotions within a naive person.
