...on. The same applies for the most overrated Stat in baseball - Wins. Getting a Win means nothing in and of itself. Wins and Losses depend on if your team picks you up offensively. For example, Derek Lowe, who gives up an average of 5 and a half runs a game, had 14 wins this year. Brandon Webb, who gives up only three and half, had only 7 Wins, along with 16 Losses. Is Lowe, with an ERA of 5.42 better than Webb (3.59)? I think not, and that is why in this report I do not include stats that depend on how good your team is. Runs are another stat that depend on your team - for if you are on a bad team, and you have no good hitter behind you to drive you home, how can you expect to score runs? Hopefully this report will clarify which stats are the true detriments of a great player. One of the central reasons behind this was that I felt that many of the better players in the league are not recognized as the great talents they are. Instead, people only hear of "superstars" on the big market teams or teams that make the playoffs. In the fact, the big sports media overlooks perhaps some of the top players in the league just because they do not play on winning teams or teams that spend in the 100-200 million a year range on players.
