the metamorphosis

...e when there is no one to listen to his true feelings, dreams and hopes which indirectly suggests his solitary confinement in society. The narrator starts off with a brief description of Gregor’s body “he was lying on his hard, as it were armor-plated, back and when he lifted his head a little he could see his dome-like brown belly divided into stiff arched segments on top of which the bed quilt could hardly keep in position and was about to slide off completely” (346). This paints a clear picture of Gregor’s hideous transformation to a hard shell insect. As the narrator had suggested, Gregor led an exhausting life “oh god, he thought, what an exhausting job I’ve picked on! Traveling about day in, day out” (346). Gregor works as a traveling salesman, thus he has to travel all over the country.
