The majority of Indians wanted to steer clear of this dispute between two different peoples that they had come to think of as friends, and a single nation. They did not fully understand that people who were once neighbors were now enemies. A big majority of the Indians sided with the British, because they had always thought of them as allies, and because of the trade that went on between the two. The Indians had become very dependant on these people, because of their superior merchandise such as metal tools, cookware, woven cloth, and guns. Guns out of all that was traded was the most sought after. The guns gave an Indian man and his family better protection and more domination when it came to hunting or any kind of war. Most of the commodities that were traded were almost always swapped with furs that the Indians had attained from hunting. Because of the guns, the Indians lost a lot of their hunting traditions because they had become accustomed to using the gun and accomplishing things way easier and without a lot of work.
