...t time for our whole family, and my mom spent most of that time in the hospital. I have three other little brothers, so I had to spend lots of my time taking care of them. My mother and I bonded more during that time than ever before. Even though it was difficult, she made it through. On May 18th 2000, my mother went into labor and I was right there by her side. I sat with her through all seven hours of labor and held her hand. Seeing my brother being born and hearing his first cry was so amazing. The doctors took him to a table to check him out and I left my moms side and followed them. I was weeping and I didn’t even know it. I got to carry him to my parents. I will never forget how proud I felt to get to hold and touch and kiss him before they did. I handed him to my mom and dad and they held him for a while, until the doctors came and took him for further testing. The results from the testing weren’t good. Since my mother was a diabetic, his pancreas was producing insulin for hers. When they cut the umbilical cord, his blood sugar dropped to eleven.
