...ple pleasures of his childhood. They include camping, hiking, picnics, drive in movies, trips to Grandmas house and kick the can. My father grew up in a low income family, they were poor, but he always expresses how he never ever felt any less privileged; on the contrary he felt grateful for such a wonderful childhood. What is that? Why were people fifty years ago so much more content with life even though they didn’t have near what we have today? Kids these days have a hard time coming up with ways to entertain them selves. You try and tell a ten year old buy that he can’t play his x box for a week and it’s like the world has come to an end. My father is currently a scout leader for twelve and thirteen year old boys in our community. It’s amazing how hard it is to get these boys to want to do anything. He’ll plan hike after hike and only be able to get a few boys out every time. Of course the boys that do end up going have a great time, but for some reason the other boys have something stuck in their heads saying that there is no way that walking around in the woods could possibly be any fun! Sometimes it seems as if the internet, video games, movies and other forms of entertainment have become our greatest downfall instead of the triumph that they should be. As a nation the US in ranked among the top hard working nations in the world, this would seem to be a good thing. But is it? Among the hardest working yes, but among the happiest, it’s hard to say. There are many European countries that take whole months of the summer to relax and vacation, yet we find it hard to take a couple of days off of work for a small family vacation. Why, why can’t we find the time? Vacation was something always very important in my family growing up. I don’t really remember having a lot of money growing up, but I do remember many memorable family vacations.
