...o your rescue. On the other hand if a country is your ally solely because they have interests in your nation, they can more than likely turn on you. There are several factors you must be aware of when forming alliances with other nations. Some of the aspects you must consider are the history of the country, their previous and present goals, and their political status. In our case we were aware that Spartonia, the newest of the seven nations, was a military nation. Our military was by far the strongest according to the statistics so that was one of the factors when creating alliances. We tried our best to only sign peace treaties with nations that did not have grudges or disputes with Spartonia. The reason behind this is because military underdogs usually fear nations with a powerful military. Even though allies play a big part in politics it is important to remember that rules and treaties can be broken and nothing is set in stone. I have come to realize that in politics, especially world affairs, there are no everlasting laws or rules a nation must always abide by. In the “Nations” game we had to provide the council with our signatures when making agreements but there were no regulations stating that those treaties could not be broken. By the end of the game many countries had broken agreements forming coalitions and even catching some of their allies by surprise. Politics is like a battle field and every individual must do whatever it takes to guarantee survival. I confess myself that I came up with a false statement about another nation in order to win over the trust of the nation I’d been negotiating with. It was not the mother ethical thing to do but I wanted to win the game and I’m sure the other six nations had the same goal as well. A nation’s goals and security must always be their sole priority.
