Jack and Ralph would try to out do each other all of the time so that all of the other kids would look up to them. They both wanted to be the leader of the group, but they both knew only one would succeed. The kids voted and elected Jack as their leader. Ralph became jealous and mad that the kids had chosen Jack instead of him. Ralph hated not being the center of attention, He also hated not being in charge of every thing. From this point on Ralph tried as hard as he could to out do Jack and he would do things behind Jacks back. Jack finally got sick of it and said, "I’m not going to play any longer. Not with you"(pg.127), when he said this he meant that he was sick of always trying to out do Ralph. He was sick of people not listening to him, and listening to Ralph instead. He was sick of Ralph trying to get the group to turn on Jack and follow him. The two, Jack and Ralph then split up and went there own ways. Some of the kids went with Jack and the rest stayed with Ralph. Jack and Ralph never really talked once they had gone their own ways. They would talk every once and a while but they were not friendly little talks, they were more like Bragging, who was doing better and, whose group was...
