The competition between rival teams is thrilling as is the match-ups between teams with records leading their divisions. The ultimate goal for the team and their fans for the regular season is to make it to the post-season. This can be achieved by either taking the top spot in their division consisting of about six or seven teams or by being one of the eight teams with the best records in their conference. The key to attaining crucial spots in the post-season playoffs lays in the team itself, that is, the players and their coaching staff. Fans follow their team’s transactions or players and the status of the players. If players on the team aren’t getting along with each other or are out with an injury it hurts the team’s chances of eventually winning the championship. The whole of this extreme atmosphere of competition results in a strong sense of loyalty for the fans and keeps them entertained. With games every few days, fans always have a match to look forward to. Watching the games and keeping track of the team statistics aren’t the only way fans are entertained with the NBA. Trading cards and video games entertain millions of young NBA fans and often pull their interest directly into the league itself. Children collect these “cards” which feature the picture of an NBA star in action, looking to obtain the rare cards of the best players. When the fans trade their cards they generally seek to obtain the cards of their favorite and the best players whose cards are worth the most money. Kids playing NBA video games are attracted to the colorful uniforms and mascots of the teams. They typically find themselves leaning towards a certain team as their favorite. Once these video-gamers and card collectors learn how the NBA functions and its rules, they become interested in the NBA itself. This cycle of entertainment draws multitudes of new fans to the league year after year. Acting as role models for the youth of the country is just as critical as entertaining the citizens of the country. All young fans think about how cool it would be to be in the NBA. Elementary and Junior High aged children enjoy daydreaming of life as an NBA star. Many pick up basketball as their hobby and spend hours or their time practicing and dreaming of basketball stardom. This involvement in sports is a healthy lifestyle for kids and helps them stay involved with the well-behaved crowd.
