...s on trial in Texas. Metallica, Megadeath, rapper Ganksta N.I.P. are just a few that are catching the blame for crimes. One of Metallica songs is catching blame due to the fact 3 people committed a crime and Supposedly listened to Metallica. The organization, Roc Out Censorship, is against any Kind of censorship in music or entertainment. This article touched on the reason I’m doing this research paper. Music being Blamed and some actually being trailed in a court of law. I think these judges, police, And anyone else in these cases need to blame the person responsible for the crimes, not The music they listened to. Music as a scapegoat is just not right, but it’s the easy way to Handle criminals, giving them a reason for there crime. Galas-Gray, T. "Can Music Kill."? 24 Sep. 2001 http://www.spookykids.Maryilyn.Manson.com/antichrist/lettertothepress2.htm A psychologists wrote this website in response that Marilyn Manson and other Music’s were getting blamed for suicide due to there lyrical content. One example she gave was a kid who had killed himself, and the father blamed the music he listened to. The author of this article asked Marilyn Manson if he was for Suicide, and he answered A strong no, and even inspired other people not to give up on life. This author shot down the idea music can cause suicide. This article was good, because people can seem to scapegoat music as the problem, when really the problem is much more. People, like the father in the example, want to find reasons, and point the finger at the wrong things. Its just like when Blue Oyster Cult "Don’t fear the reaper" got banned back in the 70’s. Same blame game going on today. Bailey, William J. "Society’s Mixed messages." 24 Mar. 1995 Indiana Prevention Resource Center. 24 Sep. 2001 http://www.drugs.indiana.edu/prevention/music.html The author of the website started off attacking rock music and saying that it has a big relationship with the wrong’s of society. He explains music is directly and indirectly pushing drug use to kids. He states many different artists and types of music besides rock in his report. He backed up his opinions with facts. The main reason picked this article was once again to show the attack on music and show what the other side of the issue thinks and believes. I will use this as a discussion trying to disprove his points he made on his web page. Nuzum, Eric. "A Brief History of Banned Music in the United States." 23 Sep. 2001 http://ericnuzum.com/banned/mcensorship.html/ This web page was about the music that has been banned threw the different Decades in the U.S. He gives different examples, such as the beetles debut album had a Totally different album cover, but due to its graphic content, it was changed by the record company. The page has a list in 10-year increments of different music, artists, or covers that has been banned in the U.S.A. This page is important to my page because it shows how music has always been one of the scapegoats for America. The different music, album covers, etc that have been banned back up my accusation. If we are a free country, how can we let this censorship happen? Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Kind of makes you wonder sometimes. Beaujon, Andrew "Confederacy of Dunces." Spin Magazine Sep 2001: p115-120 The article about a tour called the "Angry White Male Tour" that was going across the country at small venues. Skitzo, a favorite of the Columbine killer, was the one of the main events at the show, so this brought on a lot of controversy. The organizer was trying every thing he could for shock value. Supposed paintings of John Wayne Gacy, Tattooing, piercing, you name the weirdest stuff it was at this tour. The only thing was that every show they did, and a lot was cancelled due to not enough ticket sells, had less then a hundred people at every show. This article was a good example of shock music. The organizer got the controversial groups there, had a lot of shocking and stuff there. A parent’s nightmare to say the least, and why he did it. A lot of people think music that is strange and shocking always does well due to the fact it’s different and rebellious. This article proved that this tour did nothing, due to the fact the music isn’t popular and music listeners want good music, not just shocking stuff. It’s importan...
