In high school, when a student gets caught for cheating, the teacher would not give credits for the assignment. Even the biggest consequence one may receive is to be sent to the principle or dean’s office to receive a detention. Though, in college, the consequence is much more serious. Not only they might be dropped from the class, they might even get kicked out of the school. Most importantly, cheaters do not acquire any knowledge. Even though a person may success by cheating, it may only be an escape route for that moment. Cheating results to a pinch in the future. When cheating is repeated, you will forget how to put an effort on something, and enthusiasm will be vanished. Then you will not understand the sense of fulfillment, which will lead them to continue to use the escape route called cheating. Another method that is commonly used in high school that may be inappropriate and even harmful for college learning is not reading the assignments. In high school, reading assignments were not that important for our grade. Unlike college, you were expected to read only short assignments that are usually discussed and re-taught, in class later on. Thus, there was a lower risk of falling behind in class. Plus, most of the students did not read either, so we did not feel the need to do the assignments. However in college, since the learning pace is much more faster than high school, once you fail to do your assignment, it is hard to catch up. You are assigned large amounts of reading. Some of the readings may not be directly talked in class, but would appear on the tests. For that reason, reading the assignments in college is a must. The last method used in high school that is inappropriate and even harmful for college learning is failure to take notes. We did not have the habit of taking notes in high school. We took notes only when the teacher told us to. In other words, we did not learn how to pick up what was important and put it into notes by ourselves.
