...s. Transition: Her life then began to change from not having much of anything to having it all. II) She began a beautiful career as a model and then started acting in 1947. A) Her career lasted 16 years. 1. From 1947-1954 she appeared in 24 productions. 2. From 1955-1962 she only appeared in 5 movies. B) Became the Playboy magazine’s first ever playmate. 1) Marilyn was on the cover of the first issue of Playboy in 1953. C) In 1954 Marilyn married a baseball hero by the name of Joe DiMaggio in San Francisco at City Hall. 1) Was asked to go to Korea to support the troops on her honeymoon with Joe. 2) Marilyn preformed for over 60 thousand men. 3) Joe was extremely jealous of the troops Marilyn performed for. He didn’t like them ogling over her, which is one reason for their divorce in October of 1954. Transition: 9 years after visiting Korea, Marilyn died of an overdose of sleeping pills. III) On August 5, 1962 Marilyn Monroe died. A) Had a very small funeral. 1) 31 people were at the funeral to bid her a final goodbye. 2) Placed in a bronze casket lined with champagne-colored satin. 3) At Marilyn’s request made years earlier, Judy Garland’s song “Over the Rainbow” was played. 4) Marilyn’s final resting-place is in the Corridor of Memories at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles. B) Joe DiMaggio kept his wedding-day promise. 1) He placed an order for long-stemmed red roses to be delivered twice a week for the next 20 years. Conclusion: And to end this sad story I would just like to say Marilyn Monroe lived an amazing/short life. She overcame a tragic childhood without knowing her father and not having her mother there for her, only to find fame and becoming one of the most remembered actresses of all times, and finally to dying naked and alone on that August night. CARD 1: Marilyn Monroe once said, “I want to grow old without face-lifts… I want to have the courage to be loyal to the face I have made. Sometimes I think it would be easier to avoid old age, to die young, but then you’d never complete your life, would you? You’d never wholly know yourself.” CARD 2: I guess she never really knew herself because she died at the age of 36 from a drug overdose. She never knew her father; and her mother was in and out of mental institutions when Marilyn was a child. But despite her rough start, she became one of the most famous actresses of all time. And that’s why I decided to inform you about her. CARD 3: Marilyn Monroe had a rough childhood and had to overcome a lot in her life to become who she was. Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jean Baker on June 1st, 1926 at a hospital in Los Angeles. But as a child, Marilyn’s mother became more and more unstable and was in and out of mental institutions. CARD 4: Her mother, Gladys, gave Marilyn to a friend, Grace McKee Goddard to care for while she was in the mental institutions. Grace and her husband later moved away and couldn’t take the young 16-year old with her. At that time Marilyn had two choices, she could either go back to the orphanage where she spent most of her childhood or get married. At the time she was to dating a neighbor. At the age of only 16 she married her 21 year old neighbor, Jimmy Dougherty after dating for only 6 months. CARD 5: In 1944 Jimmy joined the Merchant Marines and was send to the South Pacific.
