Prostitution
...y do not make a certain amount of money, when they do not want to have sex with a certain man and mostly, when they want to quit. When the women do want to quit, it tends to be difficult for them to. They become scared; at times they are scared for their lives. A pimp will do anything he can to have women working for him and when they want to quit, the pimp's income is in jeopardy. A lot of prostitutes will go into hiding or have to move away because they know that their pimp is going to come after them. Many times when the pimp does find them, it results in violence and sometimes murder. Because they result in violence, the prostitutes then won't quit. The thought of the violence coming to them is so terrifying that they will continue selling their bodies for money. The vicious cycle of this continues over and over again until they either move away from the pimp or they are strong enough to handle the consequences. If prostitution were legal, women would not be working for anyone else. They would be able to pocket the money they earn. Madams would take care of the prostitutes, which would be a more mature and fair way of handling everything. The madams would be in charge of the prostitutes like a manager. They would not however, take any of the money that is earned. The violence and abuse that occurs would never happen and therefore, the prostitutes day at work would be less stressful and more safe. Also, the prostitute would be able to regulate who their customers are. If they feel uncomfortable for whatever reason about the customer, it would be easier to say no because there is no one telling them they have to have sex with this person. In turn, it becomes their personal choice. That leads us to the next situation: the customers. If prostitution were legal, the government would have to regulate who comes to these women. Today prostitutes do not know who they are having sex with. Their job at night is to get into cars with total strangers. This way of finding customers, can be and has been, a way to find serial killers and any other types of violent people. James Allen Fox, a criminal justice professor at Northeastern University, reports that prostitutes are the most frequent targets and victims of serial killers. Another problem being with strangers is they do not know whether or not that person has a sexually transmitted disease. In many cases there are many customers who are not honest about having a disease. Pimps also find customers for their women. Most of the time, they are not concerned with whether or not they are with someone safe; they are concerned with how much they will pay and how many times they will frequent. If there were legal brothels, they could keep a better tab on who is coming in and whether or not they are a risk. If brothels were legal, the government would be testing the customers. The Bunny Ranch, which is the United States' only legal brothel, requires every customer to be tested for any sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS. If the tests do come back that they do have a STD, HIV/AIDS or do not have a criminal background, they will not be able to purchase any acts from the prostitutes. The men that do test negative to all diseases, are able to go into a room where at times, there can be up to twenty beautiful women standing in front of him. The customer would then be able to choose which one he wants to have relations with. One does not have to pay for the whole act, there are many things a prostitute will do, but the prices all differ. The customers are not the only ones being tested. The prostitutes themselves would also have to take the same tests. The women would be required to take tests before employment to ensure the customer's safety and well being. They would also, like the Bunny Ranch girls, be required to frequently take them during their employment. This again would ensure safe sex and ultimately, decrease the spread of disease. If there were legal brothels, most prostitutes would be off the streets, where violence lingers and STD's are common. The government would then be able to regulate almost everything. Screening the customers for diseases and violent tendencies, would ensure a safer environment for the prostitutes. There are so many cases where the prostitute was not talked to about STD's and the pimp forces them have sex with any person that comes around. This contributes to the transmitting of disease and due to their job, they transmit them to many different people. Sexually transmitted diseases are one of the biggest problems a prostitute comes across. In today's society there are many people that have some kind of an STD. Because people in today's society are having sex earlier and with multiple partners, the incidence of STD' is rising. There are more than twenty identified STD's and they affect more than 13 million men and women in the United of States alone. Nearly two-th...
