...d and labeled as hazing. The number or people that automatically put sororities and fraternities together with hazing is un believable, and in general very unfair. This label has been put mainly on the Greek Society therefor people just automatically assume that every single fraternity and sorority in the Greek Community practice hazing. It is true that some, but indisputably not all, fraternities and sororities and it is debasing to those groups whom do not practice hazing in anyway. Yet still the stereotype continues to exist. A number of high school and college athletic teams and organizations also take part in hazing rituals. We the public very rarely hear about any instances of it, unless there is an intense allegation, severe injury or death. How is this ethical in any way to either party, those who are involved and most importantly the individuals being effected. We, the Fall 2004 Pledge Class, do not support or condone any instances and/or acts of hazing. As a group we are in agreement that there are alternatives to hazing; such as, planned events in which the group, team or organization attend as a whole. Another example is the participation of each individual in group-building activities. These activities in essence build a pronounced bond of trust as well as a strong understanding, appreciation and union of each person as an individual. Hazing, seen through our eyes, is lawfully wrong and most importantly morally damaging with the potential of lifelong irreplaceable mental traumas.
