AIDS
...is reward is good for the Pandemic. Many people will read the article and find out that people they know and respect are dedicating their time to fight HIV/AIDS. If These celebrities who have very busy schedules can go over to Africa in the face of the problem then we should be able to see that we can too. The celebrities could have just donate part of their millions to help but they did not. Like wise we should not fear our low income and see that there are ways to help with other gifts. Once inspired there are many avenues one can take on to combat AIDS. It is suggested in the education workbook given out in class that one can volunteer for a community hotline. They recommend publicizing it at schools, places of worship and local community groups. I believe by doing this it will make it one step easier for people to help. The organizations and battle seem so distant sometimes. If their was something they could do a little closer to home I think army could grow. World AIDS day occurs every December first. Participation in such events would help raise money for children affected by AIDS. This has proved to be a success when The Alliance for Youth Achievement raised 1,250 dollars in December of 2000. Arranging a screening of the film, Pandemic: Facing AIDS I thought was a great idea. It is something tangible. You don’t need to go through volunteer paperwork or money expenses. It basically get your pampered chef or Cut-Co group together and show the video first. The booklet suggests you go one further and collaborate with local AIDS service providers, drug treatment practitioners, community leaders, and elected officials. Invite activists, people living with AIDS, and others to participate in and before and after panel discussion. These are people that are that are way more experienced with the issue. If I was the only one there I would not be able to field their questions properly. Inviting people with AIDS or HIV could allow many people to have a first hand account or someone who lives and deals with the disease everyday. It is sad to say but if the people like their personality they will be more inclined to help. If I was to hold one of these video nights and if I could not find someone to speak who has HIV/AIDS I would defiantly invite people who knew the startling facts. Thy could also field question s I may not know. Adopt a school in another country that educated children that are effected with HIV/Aids. As a stipulation to the pamphlet’s suggestion I would try and support a Christian based school. You can also adopt a project. The youth against AIDS website has a list of community programs around the world that would benefit from your support. Starting a campaign to send letters, cards or drawings to support children and adults with HIV/AIDS is a creative way to touch a new age and personality group. As a teacher I can have kids write to other kids who are infected. They can learn from a peer at a young age. The exposure would be at the right time. It would not be to overwhelming or too graphic because it would be child to child interaction. The drawings would draw the artistic crowd to participate. The arts usually draw the high society who could have a great influence in the fight against the pandemic. Create an AIDS reference library in your school for students, parents and teachers. Allow people to donate and add a book to the collection, or ask your school to make it available at the campus bookstore. I would fund raise first so that the traditional price tags bookstores’ have would not be attached. Write a letter to the editor or opinion page of your local newspaper, expressing your support for AIDS relief efforts. This activism is another form of getting the word out. Encouraging television and radio stations to cover the Pandemic glo...
