...ay, the lottery takes place as tradition. “Soon the men began………rather than laughed.”(292)In the quote tell us that everyone is getting together to celebrate this tradition but it shows that they are not happy to celebrate this tradition. On that day wasn’t like the normal days. On that day was the day of their tradition where at the end of the celebration someone would be dead. No one knows who is going to be that person, who is going to die at the end of the celebration. Because of that tradition everyone in town is nervous about to celebrate that day. The second and most significant symbol is black box. The black box represents what’s going to happen at the end of the story. These symbol is use to predict what’s going to happen in the story. “The black box……some places faded or stained.”(293) This quote that the black box is very old to use but the town people use this black box to run the lottery. “The villagers kept their distance, leaving a space between themselves and the stool, and when Mr. Summers said,” some of you fellows want to give me a hand?” there was a hesitation before two men help him.(296) People in the town were afraid of the black box. They were nervous because the lottery was going to start, and they knew that at the end of this celebration, they going to lose someone between one of them. The black box was full of white slips, but one of them has black dot. The one person, who gets that dot on the paper, was going to be victim. The last and most significant symbol in this story. The rock symbolizes the weapon that people use to get rid off the victim. “The pile of stones……out of the box.”(301) This quotes shows us that people in town, they forget the rituals of this tradition.
