...aces of societal significance and importance. Vincent’s genetic tests show he has a bad heart and bad eyesight. He is labeled "In-Valid''. As a result, both parents decide to bring their next baby into the world of the “valid”- in the form of Anton played by Loren Dean. Vincent has a dream to fly around the Titan, one of the moons of Saturn. His dream job was rendered impossible due to both his dire condition and his increasingly isolating “in-valid” tag. One day however he meets a DNA specialist, German, played by Tony Shalhoub. German introduces him to a “valid”, Jerome, who was originally a genetically superior individual; until he was paralyzed in a car accident. Jerome is played by Jude Law who gives a stellar performance. As he comes to the realization he is now not as superior as he once was, he agrees to sell his “valid” identity. This comes in the form of blood, dead skin, a bag of urine and some of his hair. In exchange, Vincent will need to pay the rent for the identity. German guarantees him that he can work anywhere with his new identity as Jerome. With his new genetic superiority, Vincent’s dream job suddenly isn’t so far-fetched. Soon enough he is hired at Gattaca as a space agent and begins a relationship with co-worker Irene, played by Uma Thurman. A week before Vincent’s mission, Gattaca’s mission director is murdered. With his dream job now hanging in the balance, Vincent comes to the realization he has left his eyelashes at the scene. In a horrid twist of fate, Vincent becomes a suspect in the murder investigation and now must fight to clear his name and turn around this travesty of justice. There are strong, plausible performances by all the actors. Ethan Hawke, I strongly believe, gives one of his best performances in this riveting, mind-bending thriller. Jude Law and Uma Thurman both give emotional, believable acts. Jude Law’s character in particular, Jerome, develops steadily throughout the story and shows some real flare.
