Nordstrom has: 93 full lines stores, 49 rack store, 1 discount store, Nordstrom Direct catalog, Nordstrom.com, and the Nordstrom bank and visa. This gives Nordstrom stock the value of about 40 dollars a share currently. “The accounting department is a service function which should aim to provide the best possible financial information, to management, about all the assets of a business,” (Tollington, 1998, pg. 448). Nordstrom has been looking into selling its banking function off, but have not found the right offer. Nordstrom has set paces to build advances in technology. Nordstrom uses advanced computer systems for selling, tracking and monitoring client purchases. There are no longer journal tapes on old on registers. They are mini PCs. They hold the information till the end of the day are downloaded to a main frame and stored. This set the groundwork for Nordstrom to be a functional organization. Nordstrom is broken down into the three grandsons still running the main functions of the company. There are divisional leaders, buyers for departments, loss prevention, HR, benefit center, and banking. Nordstrom tracks client purchases in a new system called personal book. This is ground breaking technology. It holds all functions of a client’s profile. It eliminates tons of paperwork. Everything is done on the register. It holds everything from alteration tickets, to items being held for a client. It sends the salesperson reminds of thank you notes, birthdays, anniversaries, and client information. It tracks what a client has purchased in the past and build clients lists to aid in new merchandise coming in. Nordstrom has standardization. Rules are in places for all employees to follow.
