A bodily kinesthetic learner likes to run or walk when something is bothering them rather than sit at home to think. The logical-mathematical learner uses logic and reasoning to work through problems and issues. The scientific approach is an ideal way to solve problems. A logical-mathematical learner likes to understand reason and finds it hard to change behaviors or habits. The interpersonal learner prefers to learn in groups or with other people. Interpersonal learners have strong communication skills and use it to their advantage. An interpersonal learner enjoys one-on-one interaction with a professor or staying after class to bounce ideas off other classmates. The intrapersonal learner is much more personal, private, and independent. An intrapersonal learner concentrates well and can focus thoughts and feelings on the current topic at hand. The intrapersonal learner enjoys working alone and enjoys self-refection. After taking a learning style test, I have found out that I am primarily a logical and linguistic learner. I learn better by reading and speaking, and using logic and reasoning. I commonly find myself reading aloud and talking to myself. I use mnemonics and acronyms for recalling information. During my undergraduate work, I found it helpful to tape record lectures, then play them back as needed. I have also thought of myself as more science-oriented and logical. When learning I find it easier to understand the background of the text than to just rote learn and memorize. It is very difficult for me to change certain behavior and habits. I tend to overanalyze certain things, thereby causing a delay in achieving my targeted goal. By recognizing and understanding my learning styles, I can now use techniques better suited to enhance my learning. This will significantly improve the rate and quality of my learning. Knowing and understanding my learning style will also have a positive effect on my Learning Team. In relation to teamwork, awareness of different styles is important in learning about how individuals work within a team and how team member’s work together as a team. Learning Team A has several different learning styles within it. Linguistic and spatial are the most common. Thus far, I do not think our different learning styles have effected out team’s ability to communicate or achieve our goals. The ability to speak effectively is as crucial as the ability to write effectively. During the day employees probably spend more time speaking than writing. Using the phone; talking with colleagues, subordinates, superiors, vendors, and clients; conducting meetings; working in teams; dealing with associate and/or human relations issues; and participating in teleconferences are a few examples of daily verbal communication.
