New Drums

...he drums lugs are taken off by the drum key. When you start this wonderful process you first begin removing all the hardware off the drums. The lugs that hold the rims on the drums will be first to go, this where the drum key falls into play, just go to each drum and remove every single lug top and bottom. Once you finish this and it’s just the shell, then grab the screwdriver and remove the hardware on the drums itself, the screws are usually on the inside of the drum. This is the part that really takes awhile, like I said before if you own an electric screwdriver then it will take no time at all. Do this until your drums are just a naked wood shell. When you get all the hardware and lugs off the drum put them aside where they won’t get lost or misplaced because if you lose a piece you will have to go out and buy the missing pieces. Removing the plastic cover can be kind of tricky because some types of drums have the cover is glued on two sides or just on one side of the drum, if its on one side then just start to remove it slowly because the glue is really sticky so just go as slow or as fast as you can, it all depends on the way its glued on. If two sides of the cover is glued just remove it carefully not to chip the wood off, do this to the rest of the drums until all the covers are off and its just the naked shell of the drums. Then will need to grab the 3x5 pieces of sandpaper because if you feel the bare drums they’ll feel really rough, so will need to sand it down softly to give that smooth texture before you put the paint on. Sanding down drums takes no time at all, with one piece for each drum just gently rub the sandpaper up and down the drum shell in an elevator motion until you work your way all around the drum. Some drums will take a little longer then the others counting on the size of the drums, like the bass drum and floor tom will take longer because they are the biggest drums out of the set. Do the sanding process at least two times to each drum to give it an extra smooth finish. Once you have sanded down all drums to a smooth ass texture, in comes time for the actual painting process. If you chose to go with the wood finish paint then apply the paint only on the outside of the drum shell using the same up and down elevator motion you used to sand the drums with, do this to all the drums. After you applied one coat of paint let it dry for at least two hours before applying the second coat, two coats will give it a good wood finish. But if you chose to put your favorite color then carefully apply the paint to the drum shells in the same motion as you would have with the wood finish paint, try not to put to much paint on because your going to put...
