...ion one of the best things that ever happened to America. In 1862 another act was proposed, but was vetoed by former president Buchanan. Lincoln however, had no problem with the homestead act of 1862. As a president, Lincoln had gone through one of the worst wars America faced. He handled the situation in a calmer matter than most other people would though. On November 19, 1863 the Gettysburg Address was introduced. Lincoln helped free the slaves, provided homes for families, and helped everyone realize what the Civil War was really about and helped the people realize what the soldiers were giving up to protect their country, and family. Abraham Lincoln is by far one of the best presidents America ever had. In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected president. He had 1,866,452 popular votes, and 180 electoral votes. Lincoln is widely known as “Honest Abe” his honesty played a major role during his 8 years in office. Abraham Lincoln always sticks to what he believes in, and didn’t do anything for himself only, but he did it for the people too. Abraham Lincoln had to make a lot of important decisions not just for the present, but for the future of America as well.
