This boat is a scale replica of an actual ancient Egyptian passenger boat. There is a first mate at the front of the boat to watch out for hippos, known to turn over boats, and a steer man at the rear to supervise the ten rowers. This is clearly a passenger boat because of the two passengers in the middle of the boat. The two holes in the back were used to place two poles which held a large cloth to cover them from the hot Egyptian sun. The oars are made from cedar, a precious wood imported in trade. There are six rowers to paddle the boat upstream, this makes a total of ten Egyptians. These Egyptians look the same; there is no sense of distinction or noticeable class hierarchy. They are all wearing the same clothes, which consists of white baggy, loose shorts and no shirt. The Egyptians were also painted dark brown and it is probably to show there skin color, which has a lot to do with the climate. Because it was very hot, the Egyptians would walk around without a shirt and therefore got sunburned. The Egyptians also had the same hair style, which consist of a thick black medium size afro.
