... I had not attended preschool or daycare; it introduced me to people my age, a schedule, and prepared me socially for the next twelve years. In our school system, we attended the same school for the next eight years. Not much changed during this time just the class schedules. We had different teachers for every subject and our work got a little bit harder each passing year. Recess and lunchtime was a time to socialize with our friends in other classes. Homework and testing was followed by our learning in the classroom. I think I had learned the most during this time because schoolwork was still fun. Changing classes during grade school prepared us for the transition to high school. After my freshman year, I was burnt out with attending school everyday because the teachers assigned to much homework. I worked in a restaurant after school and never worked on assignments until the last minute. No more recess and the only time we talked to our friends was in the hallways or locker area in between classes. These four years were supposed to prepare us for college or the work world, but I had no desire for either. I had no ideas for choosing a career after high school or if college would be an option at the time of graduation. My decision to attend college came in my twenties, two children and two marriages later. I was tired of working in a factory and wanted more than a low-paying job.
