Finally, Kerry sees how our dependence on Midwest oil leads to tension with many terrorist ties, and that we must untangle our country by finding other sources of oil. I agree with Bush’s strong emphasize on the importance of military funding, seeing as we are in the middle of a war. I do feel that in a time of war the government should be able to intervene more with the everyday lives of people, as in the USA PATRIOT Act because the safety of our nation is the greatest priority. However, I also agree with Kerry wanting to get allied troops to help America out and waiting until we have that support to attack any kind of terrorist state. I believe whole heartedly that we must not be dependant on Mideast oil, and find our own means of oil production within our borders. Both candidates obviously want to destroy terrorist networks, prevent nuclear terrorism, and stop any kind of funding for terrorists. They want to step up protection on our own soil, insure other countries aren’t susceptible to falling to the hands of terrorists, and support democracies throughout the world while keeping our valuable allies. Both men also agree the ban on stem cell researching had to be lifted. President Bush and Senator Kerry both support federal funding for stem cell research keeping in mind that all research and procedures have to keep within ethical limits. Bush believes human embryos deserve respect as a form of human life and therefore has been generally more receptive of human non-embryonic stem cells, giving $190.7 million to that cause in 2003.
