why i want to sing

...e an opportunity arrives, I will be prepared in every way possible to use the gifts that God gave me. I love singing. I first started singing when I was a freshman in high school. Since then I have performed for my school’s choir all four years of high school. Once I started choir I realized that I really loved singing. I joined my church’s worship team, I joined a voice class at my dance studio and I also joined a Christian performing group called IMPACT. During my last year of high school, I decided to get more training by joining a college singing class. During my journey through singing I never really grasped the understanding of singing. I knew it involved memorizing words, learning the correct notes and not being afraid to perform in front of a large audience. It was just recently that I understood it was about telling a story. At my last choir show back in May my friend sang the song “Dance with my Father”. My friend’s father died when he was a freshman in high school so when he sang this song he sang it with such conviction and emotion. From backstage I finally realized what “telling a story” really meant. I want to be able to tell a story. I know that God has given me the ability to sing and now all I need to do is get the proper training to sing and tell my story. Training is very important when it comes to singing. A singer never wants to go up on stage and open themselves up to the audience unprepared. It is as if taking the SATs without studying for the test at all. Singing is almost in a way like sports.
