Smoking on Campus: Should it be banned
...ol, so naturally the habit is carried on into college. The reason kids pick up on this habit is because tobacco companies target young kids because they are so impressionable. These companies use young, athletic, and very attractive models to advertise cigarettes. This makes smoking look cool, so naturally young people are drawn to the addictive habit. This also leads me to believe that maybe non-smokers should not be so hard on smokers because it is an extremely hard habit to break. In between being for or against smoking on college campuses, some students feel that it might be okay to smoke as long as it is done in a designated smoking area. This is because you cannot infringe on someone’s rights. Even though there are designated smoking areas, smoke is a substance that cannot be regulated. Which is probably one of the main reasons smoke is becoming less socially acceptable. This is also why more public places are starting to prohibit smoking in their facilities, due to the fact that smoke drifts to non-smoking areas and causes non-smoking customers to complain. Another issue is even though smokers have the legal right to smoke, it also infringes on non-smoker’s rights. They have the right to not want to be around smoke, whether it be a health reason or personal choice, their choice should be respected. Even though some people might say that non-smokers should not be around designated smoking areas, but often they do not have choice, because most designated smoking areas are right by entry ways to buildings.
