Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust

Another comparison is that it follows the theme of a creation myth. In a creation myth, somehow the universe is created, then destroyed by a sinful or a punishing act and then created again. These lines in the story follow those rules, “There were giants that walked this land…Then one day they say the sky gave way…There was fire everywhere and nothin’ was spared…Then the sea gave birth and it crawled up on the dirt.” This song also tells the similar story of how Ancient Rome thrived with great supremacy, but eventually was put into ruins. “That every tower ever built tumbles, No matter how strong, no matter how tall, Someday even great walls will crumble.” The rise and fall of mankind’s accomplishments is a repetitive phase. What goes around, comes around. “Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust” is the chorus and last lines to the song. The songwriter makes a strong point that those lyrics are noticed, by changing the vocals into darker tones and emphasizing them. After every verse the writer repeated those lines. It’s a religious phrase out of the bible meaning that earth will bring death. I think what he’s trying to say is that there isn’t anything you can do about the circumstances; you just have to let fate let it do its work. A line sums up this statement “When we’ve done all that we can but it slipped through our hands.” We all try so hard to make things work but in the end it doesn’t really matter. All things must come to an end, and we have a hard time accepting that.
