In Joyce Oates’s story, Gurov and Anna met in Nantucket, New York. The way Joyce Oates and Anton Chekhov wrote the short story was different from each other. For example, Chekhov during his era he wasn’t aloud to directly mention or show any sexual activity in the story. The reader had to just imagine it and fill in the gaps where Chekhov couldn’t go into details with. Joyce Oates was a more modern writer who wasn’t restricted to her writing.
