Spatial Diffusion Vodka as I mentioned before was 1st found in Russian in the 9th century but was used for medicinal purposes. And then it was found in Poland in the 11th century. It was also used for medicine. In the 15th century Russia decided to start exporting it to other countries. But vodka had too many impurities and they didn’t think it would be popular in other regions of the world. “The 15th century saw the first appearances of pot distillation…seasonings, freezing were all used to remove impurities. Distillation became improved by precipitation using isinglass, milk or egg whites.” (Nault 2004) In the 1450s vodka was being largely produced. The first recorded export was in 1505 and it was imported from Russia to Sweden. Soon after, Poland started to export Wodka from major production centers in Posnan and Karkow. (Nault 2004) In 1879 Sweden also going in the vodka market and started to bottle vodka under the name Absolut. Then 7 years later in 1886 they started to export in USA, Canada, Mexico…. During the Russian Revolution vodka producers left Russia and went all around Europe. “One producer Bolsheviks went to Paris France and used his French name to sell vodka witch was Smirnoff. In 1943 the rights of Smirnoff were sold to a US drink company.” (Pokhelbekin 2004) From this small distillery that started off in Russia, then to France and then finally bought by an American. This company is now one of the top producers of Vodka around the world knows as Smirnoff. Evolution The biggest evolution in the production of vodka was “in 1771 the Liebig was invented by a German chemist Christian Ehrenfried Weigel. His method is using charcoal to purifying the vodka.” Until that method was figured out purifying was done by felt or sand. In the early 2000s vodka has evolved from the bitter taste too sweet sour even spicy. The fist flavored vodka was produced by Smirnoff and the name of this drink was Smirnoff Twist. The flavors vary from cranberry, raspberry, orange and so on… Picking up on this idea was Absolut there flavors include citron, vanilla, mandarin and pepper. There products satisfies the consumers who don’t like the flavors of ordinary vodka. Another innovation was introduced also by Smirnoff in the early 2000s the product they introduced was Smirnoff Ice. Smirnoff Ice is Vodka mixed with lemon in small individual bottles.
