...ohibited immigration of Chinese contract laborers for ten years. The early 1900’s 7,000 Koreans came to Hawaii to work in sugarcane and pineapple fields. They became strike breakers against Japanese laborers demanding better work conditions and wages. In the 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt entered into a “Gentlemen’s Agreement,” which limited Japanese immigration into Hawaii, and this include a ban on Korean immigration to the United States laborer to open fields to Filipinos. In 1965, National Origins Act was declared, and this raised Asian immigrants to 20,000 per year for Asian countries. From this time, educated Asian Americans came to America, and started to settle. Finally, the last immigration movements from Southeast Asia moved into the United States; Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. For over 200 years, Asians have pushed by U.S Government through many laws and Acts. Ever since the firs Asians arrived in America, there has been anti-Asian racism for some misunderstood reasons. From the start, Asian Americans have not been treated equally as people who had right to live in America. They were legally accepted, but they were still unhelpful foreigner to Americans. Lots of Asian immigrants came into the United States as contract workers, and this movement was the main reason for harassments, hostility, physical attacks and murders. Asians who pushed to be out of their homelands under political or economic reasons saw America as a land of their last hope. But the things that are waiting for them were those hard things. Where did their dreams go? Since Asian laborers were cheap in the early immigration years, American company welcomed them. White laborers who could not get jobs thought that Asian laborers took too much job opportunities from them. They started to struggle to U.S government about that, and many Acts figured for these unreasonable facts. Until nowadays, the discriminations still remain in the job field, even much of discriminations were rejected for Asian Americans efforts. How about Asian Americans livings? In recent years, Asian Americans prefer their own small business. These small business owners have a lot of successes and can become wealthy. For example, there are small restaurants, cleaners, groceries and etc. Since these small business owners do not hire workers other than their family, they can save money for salary, and this is the big point of savings. However, there are some problems with Black and Latino customers. As we could know from the Los Angeles riots 1992, Black and Latino’s robberies, violence and murders can be the most harmful fact. I remember the days TV news program reported the riots in Los Angeles. It just looked like a movie. Businesses were burning and Blacks were running around. Since the riots happened in Korean town, I could not go outside, and I started to keep distance from Black and Latino. Asian Americans, to erase tension between Asians and Black and Latino, are trying to help each other. Now many Asian businesses hire Black and Latino employees, especially Latinos, and offer convenience service to those ethnics. Not everything is solved by violence and laws, and Asian American knows that. The main reason that Asian American could not mix into American is the culture difference. As people know, each country has their own unique culture. Of course there can be similar things and totally different things. For example, Kor...
