Heroes of the New Era and the Past
...s. In the legend Beowulf went to a town to help them rid of a monster. He risked his life to kill the horrible beast. Beowulf is obviously a hero because he saved lives and helped others in times of need. Beowulf showed his heroism by risking his own life to save the lives of others. Beowulf met every standard that the Anglo/ Saxons believed a hero should have. Many people today would qualify as heroes including policemen, firefighters, doctors, bomb technicians, and soldiers. Policemen, firefighters, doctors, bomb technicians and soldiers usually do not think of themselves as heroes because they are just doing what they are trained or love to do. Today a hero is usually somebody that has performed brave acts to help others. For instance somebody who dives in front of a bullet to save the life of another is considered a hero. Today there is another kind of hero. Many people are considered heroic because of their athletic skills. If someone makes a buzzer-beating shot to win a game on national television they are considered a hero to millions.
