...Even today there are some southerners that don’t like “Yankees”. This social change in American history is very important because of how people, indifferent of color or race, treat each other in today society. The rapid rise of the black population caused considerable racial tension. While the republicans tried to assist the newly freedmen by establishing the freedmens bureau, it made the ununification in social priority even further away. In todays America there is still lingering residual effects left from reconstruction. In the south and in all kinds of museums you can see different signs degrading black people and also racial slurs. There is still an active Ku Klux Klan, however, they don’t lynch people anymore they make their opinion widely known by hosting protests.
