Amy called the doctor finally and spoken in perfect English and they assured her that the CAT scan would be found, and they told her that a conference call on Monday would be held. Amy worked hard in school, even though English was her least favorite subject and also the hardest for her. Her boss told her that English was her worst skill, and she should stick to account management. So, Amy did just the opposite. She majored in English her first year in college, just because she was doubted. She wrote a fiction book, the story’s theme was on mothers. She wrote about how she grew up using different types of English, but the majority of her book was in her mother’s language just do that she could for once understand a book that she read. The theme of this story reminds me of racism, the reason I say this is because the mother was treated differently just because of the way she talked. She was Japanese and had a hard time talking in the English language, but tried her best and her speaking was still understandable. But, just because of the fact that she couldn’t speak proper English people judged her and didn’t give her the respect that she deserved. Her stockbroker was trying to cheat her out of her money, due to the way she talked. He thought that she was stupid, and he could pull it off because she didn’t know what she was talking about. A similar situation occurred later in the story dealing with her CAT scan. She possibly has a brain tumor, and I’m pretty positive that she wanted her results back pretty badly. But, she couldn’t even get the doctors to look for the CAT scans that they lost by mistake, or even schedule her appointment over the phone. They told her that she would have to go down do the hospital and make an appointment; this isn’t how they treated every customer, just Amy’s mother because she spoke improperly.
