Firemen: Should I?
...assortments of fire tec. classes and fire explorer programs that you need unless you want to become a cop. In order to become a fireman you must work very hard to achieve this honor. It is not easy at all and you need to put 100 percent of your mind, body, and strength into it. Many people today wish to be a fireman but only a few percent become so. If you want to become one you have to make a whole bunch of friends who are already firemen or you just need to get noticed as a hard worker who really wants to become a fireman. You must go the extra ten yards if this is what you really want to do. My brother wanted to become a fireman and he said the only way you can become one is if you stand out. You can’t just do whatever they tell you and that’s all. You have to go over and aboard and excel higher than everybody else is. Actually, his exact words were “You have no chance”, but I say different. I say that I CAN accomplish these things if I just put my mind to it. The very first thing you have to do is to take classes in high school called ROP which sets you up on the right path to becoming a fireman. These classes teach you all the basic things that you need to know such as what temperature metal burns at and what temperature wood burns at and what time of the year there are forest fires and all sorts of stuff like that. You need to join these programs as soon as possible and stick with it as long as you can because it shows that you are dedicated to becoming a fireman and will do anything to accomplish this dream. The next thing you need to do is to join a fire explorer program with your local fire department which allows you to do some work in the field and get a grasp on what being a fireman is all about, thus creating work experience so when you apply to a department they can see that you already had some training. This is a MUST if you want to be accepted a firemen training school because this would show that you have been in the field and you know somewhat of what you have to do when you become a fireman. Without this you will have a hard time joining in one of these schools unless you know somebody on the inside which I know that a lot of people do that get hired in county fire departments. This would include working on the field alongside a fireman as he wets down a burning building. Also you want to be getting active in your community because all of that when you interview if your active in your community it shows you care and that you have great civic responsibility. The Chief Fire Marshal of the Upland Fire Department says, “We are very much active in our community”, which shows you they care. Also when you’re in high school you should always want to achieve good grades. That is something that I have trouble and until I stop being lazy, will keep having trouble with for some time. The next thing you have to do is take some classes on all the necessary things that you need to become a fireman such as taking a class called farm ecology because before you become a fireman you become a paramedic which deals with victims of drugs and if you have a life or death situation you need to know what you have to do with the person depending on what drug their on. But if you take this class without the purpose of joining a fire department afterwards then you should probably not take this because then you would look like a drug dealer/maker because this class also shows you how to make the drugs and not only how to tell the difference when somebody is intoxicated with them.
