He got married in 1772 (by this time he was already a member in the General Assembly in the House of Burgess.)to Martha Wayles Skelton, a young widow know by Jefferson as Patty; they had 6 children but only two of them survive. Martha Jefferson died in 1782. In 1768 he was elected Burgess, and from there and on took an active in all of the events that later on led to the American Revolution. Jefferson was a poor public speaker, but because of his great knowledge, made him a highly valued writer when resolution and other public papers were drafted. Helped in every single event that took place in America like the Townsend Acts, the Committee of Correspondence where he protested against this British treats.
