Sean helps Will by giving him a small lecture while they were sitting on the bleacher in front of a pond. Sean lectured Will on how he know everything about life and not actually experience any of them. He told Will that he does not see an intelligent and confident man in Will rather than just a little boy. The lecture has hit Will in his most sensitive spot which made him angry, and that is exactly what the Professor intended to do. He wants to use the lecture as a trigger to get Will out of the box because he knows that Will is a very competitive person. Consequently, there is no way that Will is going to give up without a fight. However, in order to prove that Professor McGuire was wrong about him, Will have to get out of the box and start experience things that he hasn’t which is exactly what Professor McGuire wants Will to do. Throughout the movie, Will always suffered with negative self¬-images due to the influences of his abusive childhood. He thinks that he is not good for anything. One could see that in the movie, when Skylar asked Will to join her on the trip to LA, but Will refused to go. The reason that Will refused to go is that he thinks that he is not good enough for Skylark due to the fact that he is poor and an orphan who has no future. Another reason is Will is afraid that thing might not work out for them, and he would ruined her life if they get marry. Again, Sean was there for Will. He helps Will overcome his suffering with negative self-images. There was a part in the movie where Sean admitted that he also had suffered abuse as a child. At the end of their conversations, Sean continuously said to Will that everything that happened to him was not his fault, and that moment was the turning point of Will’s life. Because of what Professor McGuire said, Will is able to let go of the past that has been bother him for a long time. In addition, this incident opens a whole new world for Will where his abusive childhood no longer affects his life and holds him back from being with Skylark. He finally realizes that there is a much more positive self-image in him than he thinks there is. Furthermore, Will decides to stop denying his talents and accept with who he is. In the end, he finally found the courage to recognize that he might be good enough for Skylark after all. Generally, the biggest problem that Will faced in the movie is that he doesn’t know what he wants in his life.
