Greed in the Crucible
...of land, and was known. I think that the power he had led to his greediness. He went on accusing George Jacobs of witchcraft. But that was not what he was really accusing Mr. Jacobs for, it was for all of the land the Mr. Jacobs owned, so that Putnam could have all of that land. Even though he already had his big amount of land, he still wanted more than what he needed or deserved. If I had all of that land and wanted more, I would not try to get more by taking it away from others. Putnam not only did it for more land, but he wanted more power. Another character that lets greed take over all of his decisions was Mr. Parris. As minister he always felt that he was underpaid and wanted more, like most professional athletes Gill 2 always want more money than they need. Throughout the story Mr. Parris was always helping out, by accusing a number of people for witchcraft, he was only doing that for his own good, and for the good of Abigail Williams and the girls. Also throughout the story he tries to get John Proctor convicted and hanged, but in the end when Proctor is about to be hanged, Parris begs for Proctor not to be hanged, so the whole town will not turn on him or blame him for killing one of the well known people in Salem Village. I also think that Abigail Williams was one of the greediest people in the story. For the whole story I felt that all this girl wanted was attention. I think that many people do want a lot of attention, but most do not try to get it the way she does. She starts to make things up and accuse innocent people for her own good. It worked, because she got a lot of attention...
