This issue is of significant importance to me as a nursing student and future registered nurse. In a March 2004 report-- The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality-- found that “Hospitals with low nurse staffing levels tend to have higher rates of poor patient outcomes such as pneumonia, shock, and cardiac arrest”. Also, this bill will require healthcare facilities to recruit more nurses to ensure that there is a high level of quality care. As you know, this bill is of great importance to the nursing profession. This bill addresses the need to regulate and determine safe and effective ratios of nurses to patients to provide for quality care. Also, it seeks to provide loans and grants to help with nurse recruitment in PA. I do believe this is a very important issue and of course there are many arguments for and against it.
