...and Mrs. Lantin’s first meeting, their marriage are flashbacks in the story. Moreover, the flashbacks at the beginning of the story are used to draw the readers’ attention to the story. Also, ending is written effectively, the writer ends the story as if he wants to shock the readers. He uses the sentence “ She made his life miserable” at the end. Furthermore, there are some clues and details to help the reader to be able to distinguish the characters. Also, after she had started to go to theater without her husband, the desire of dress was aroused in her. This is an important detail since, later it is understood that she wanted to be well-dressed to attract the male. Besides, there is a really significant clue, once she said her husband “you should swear it was real jewelry” about the false jewelries as if she wanted to reveal something. Third point we have to stress is the conflict in the story. The story basicly represents the corruption of the moral values in Paris in 19th century. This collapse compelled the authors of 19th century to propose this subject for the agenda. Maupassant tries to explain the corruption by the help of Mr. Lantin and Mrs. Lantin.
